BOHS IP405 - Management of Asbestos in Buildings
Managing the procurement of services from asbestos surveyors, removal contractors, assessors and analysts
Effectively managing asbestos is a necessary and challenging area of work, and procuring services from asbestos surveyors, removal contractors, assessors and analysts is often required. The BOHS IP405 qualification provides the necessary background knowledge to make better procurement decisions and to monitor the quality of the services by understanding the work procedures and acceptable standards of performance. This is an international and industry recognised course that provides a huge amount of practical knowledge of all aspects of asbestos management and an overview of the surveying, removal/remediation, air sampling and clearance processes. The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) IP405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings course is a follow on course that complements IP402 Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings.
Who is this course for?
The IP405 course is suitable for:
duty holders and persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), or anyone who assists them in the discharge of their responsibilities
anyone who manages asbestos in buildings
anyone who is responsible for procurement of asbestos related services
anyone who wishes to progress from asbestos surveying into asbestos management.
The five modules of this course are: asbestos properties and regulatory requirements; management of asbestos in buildings; asbestos remediation; the role of a laboratory/analyst, and practical work. A broad range of asbestos related matters are covered including the nature of asbestos, its properties and health effects, ACM location in buildings, AMPs and management strategies, the roles of all stakeholders including surveyors, contractors and analysts. The course consists of a range of teaching methods including slide presentations, video and practical tasks, and role play combining all aspects of the course syllabus, giving the course participant an overview of events that they may experience at work. The course participant is supplied with all course materials that they require for the course. An element of independent study is required and must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face instruction.
Course participants will be required to pass all the following examinations:
Tutor Practical.
Written Theory Examination (40 Short answer questions) – 2 hours 20 minutes.
Written Practical Examination (35 questions based on photographs, diagrams or extracts from relevant documentation) - 1 hour 40 minutes.
